Where is my game?
This page is a pointer of what you can expect at this game and where you might have fun.
What we will be providing at this game
-
Food and drink - Buffet style, with tables set up to allow dining in small groups
-
Several NPCs (non-player characters) playing the house servants and the hosting family, to assist players with making connections.
-
Several warm-up exercises before the game start to help people understand their relative rank, wealth etc.
-
Dancing - simple, easy to join in. An expert caller will be walking everyone through each dance before it starts.
-
Gambling - simple games of chance, picked to allow characters to swiftly gain or lose wealth. We will provide each player with fake money, proportional to their current wealth. An NPC will assist players with learning the rules of the period games.
-
Parlour games - silly family games, picked to encourage flirting and gossip-worthy behaviour. An NPC will assist players by enthusiastically encouraging starting a game.
-
Assistance with Character Development before game start, to ensure your character fits with the style of the game. It is worth looking at the family page and the character classes page to get a sense of what different tropes and styles of play would suit you.
You may wish to look at the timetable for the evening.
What we expect from players
-
Design of a character with goals and antagonistic relationships with other characters (particularly within their own family)
-
To wear an appropriate costume - a neat suit or modern Empire-line dress is fine.
-
Not to pre-plan their relationship arcs. For example, it is fine to have that you are madly in love with someone in your backstory, but please don't pre-arrange that you will marry them during the game. We are hoping to create a game filled with the tension of being unsure of the other person's feelings.
What this game is not
-
A mystery - there will be no murders to investigate or puzzles to solve
-
A fight - there will be no zombie invasions or PvP fighting. No characters are at risk of death or injury
-
A play - while there will be a few NPC characters, they are not intended to showcase a central plot, but to facilitate the players in making their stories work
